Renaissance Introduction

Thinking about the Middle Ages, life was pretty tough for many people. This led to people trying to think about how they could improve the world around them.

Why are we fighting?
Why are we getting so sick?
How can we help prevent these things from happening in the future?

Check out these two videos about the Renaissance, which is the time period after the Middle Ages where all this thinking began.

Crash Course #1
Crash Course #2

- Which video does a BETTER job of explaining the Renaissance? Why and how do you know?
- Think of a time where you thought things in your life were not great, and you decided to change something about it. What did you do, and how did it change the situation?

Middle Ages Narrative

This week we are working on writing a narrative from the perspective of someone who lived in the Middle Ages. Students are creating a character based off of what they researched last week and having that character face a Middle Age problem.

In further preparation for this, we will be watching the following video to help add detail to our character/story.

Worst Jobs in History: Medieval Edition
- while you watch the video, take notes of the different types of jobs; there are at least 10 mentioned
- after, write down which job you think is the 'best' and which one is the 'worst' and give a specific reason why

The Middle Ages

This week we will start to look at the worldview of people in the past, specifically in Europe for now.
As an intro, we are going to check out this Crash Course video to get a sense of what the Middle Ages were like. Students should try to jot down 5 things that they think are important from this video.

Next, we are heading into a mini-research project on the Middle Ages.

Week 3: World Maps and Personal Identity

We finished last week off with playing a video game in class; how rad was that?! Thanks to Mr. Staveley for introducing us to this amazing story-telling game! Here's a link to the website if you want to share it with friends and family: Never Alone
- Please make sure that your responses to the game are turned in to Shaskin ASAP so we can get them up for display outside the Indigenous Learning Centre!

This week, we are working towards finishing our world maps so that we can begin looking at specific civilizations and how their worldview is affected by their locations. Maps should be completed by Tuesday, September 10 at the latest!
- Use this online atlas if you are working on the map at home: World Atlas
